Take A Stand!

An introduction to persuasive writing...

Chicken or steak?
                   Ocean or pool?
                                  Ketchup or mustard?

                                                        Which would you choose?
Could you give 2 strong reasons for your choice?

                                           Or possibly 3?

                         These smart students certainly could!

The students worked with partners to "Take a stand" about a topic.
This was a great way to warm up for opinion writing.

After the warm up, the students were assigned the following prompt -
"Convince your parents to raise your allowance."
And boy, did they enjoy that topic!

Writing Standard- W.2.1
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
